GAMETRIFICATION

To develop Gametrification, a long collective action research was carried out to bring out the dynamics of change that affect the neighborhoods of the cities and to involve those who live there through play. Starting from the question "When do you live well or badly in a neighborhood?" and from the desire to present the plurality of actors, interests, relationships that contribute to change, we have designed a game that brings this multiplicity to exasperation. Through a mechanism of interpretation of the wishes of the characters, the players put themselves in the shoes of different subjects to understand what helps them to be happy. The board, which presents a map with significant places and spaces in the neighborhood, is also a “square”, a place for meeting and comparing different values.
The "transformations" modify the space and affect the balance of the neighborhood, experiencing its precariousness. Each transformation, in fact, always corresponds to a reaction of several characters who will be more or less satisfied, more or less affected by the change. GameTrication has had as its perimeter the Giambellino-Lorenteggio, a district on the south-western outskirts of Milan, which in recent years has been invested in a major urban redevelopment project. GameTrification can be played in a classic (competitive) version or in a forum (cooperative) version. Some boxes can be found in Mercato Lorenteggio, other boxes have been distributed in various playrooms throughout Italy.
